New Audi A2 e-tron: Audi’s Iconic Small Car Returns as an EV

More than 20 years after it disappeared, the Audi A2 is back, and this time it’s fully electric.

The Audi A2 name has returned on a brand-new electric hatchback built around efficiency and everyday practicality.

With a choice of three batteries and up to 401 miles of WLTP range, the A2 e-tron will be the entry point to Audi's electric range when it arrives in the UK in early 2027.

Old name, new idea

The original A2 launched around the turn of the millennium and was known for its quirky, lightweight design and impressive economy. The new car follows the same thinking but swaps petrol and diesel for electric power.

Efficiency has shaped the whole design. Audi claims a drag coefficient of just 0.24, helped by aerodynamic wheels, a largely enclosed underbody and an active cooling intake.

How far can it go?

There are three battery sizes:

52kWhup to 262 miles
61kWhup to 320 miles
84kWhup to 401 miles

The 401-mile figure is for the 84kWh car with 231PS. The most powerful 326PS version manages up to 391 miles.

That's a lot of range for a relatively compact car. Audi says the most efficient version uses as little as 12.8kWh per 100km, making the A2 e-tron its most efficient production car yet.

Charging

52kWhup to 100kW, 10 to 80% in around 24 minutes
61kWhup to 105kW
84kWhup to 183kW, 10 to 80% in around 29 minutes

The A2 e-tron can also power electrical devices through Vehicle-to-Load (V2L). Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), which lets the car supply energy to a compatible home, will be offered in selected markets.
